About HIPAA

The passage of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, which is known as HIPAA, in August 1996, gave the federal government the ability to mandate how Doctors, Hospitals, Insurance Companies, and others involved with your medical care store and transmit patients' personal healthcare information beginning on April 14, 2003. This mandate law is not federally funded, which means each health care organization is required to support itself.

We have implemented Privacy and Security Rules, the Privacy Rule essentially controls the use and disclosure of what is known as Protected Health Information. As the patient, the Protected Health Information includes your identifiable health information held or disclosed by a practice regardless of how it is communicated (i.e. electronically, verbally, or written). Your healthcare information will be disclosed with other entities in order to carry out the treatment, payment, and healthcare operations that are necessary to complete your medical visit.
